As the industrial action embarked upon by doctors at the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital reaches the fourth month, patients have lamented that doctors at the hospital  completely  abandoned their duty posts since Monday, April 11.
They said the situation has worsened their health conditions and deprived them of  adequate medical care.
Findings by this reporter revealed that  patients with critical ailments have  pressed for referral to private hospitals and the Federal Teaching Hospital, Ido Ekiti, to prevent sudden death.
A top member of the hospital’s management team who spoke in anonymity said “We are speaking to the striking doctors , but it seems they are recalcitrant , they don’t want to bow to pressure at all,” he said.
The chairman, Nigerian Medical Association, Ekiti chapter, Dr. John
Akinbote , who justified the strike action , said the body and its affiliates, have always been vanguards of health promotion in the country, adding that  payment of their salaries and other benefits should not be allowed to suffer unduly.
