Doctors nationwide will wear black arm bands for a week from Tuesday to mourn six doctors killed in a crash on their way to attend an annual conference of the Nigerian Medical Association in Sokoto.
The six doctors, all delegates from Ekiti, and their driver died along Abuja-Kaduna expressway, the NMA said in a statement.
The association has given their names as:
- · Dr. Alex Akinyele–Federal Teaching Hospital (FTH), Ido Ekiti
- · Dr. Tunde Aladesanmi – General Surgeon, FTH, Ido Ekiti
- · Dr. O.J. Taiwo – Anatomic Pathologist, Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH), Ado-Ekiti
- · Dr. Ogunseye J.B – National Association of General and Government Medical and Dental Practitioners (NAGGMDP) National Secretary, Hospital Management Board (HMB), Ekiti
- · Dr. Olajide .O – Association of Resident Doctors (ARD), EKSUTH President
- · Dr. Atolani Adeniyi – Secretary NAGGMDP, Ekiti State
- · Mr. Ajibola – NMA Ekiti Driver
Other members on the delegation survived the crash and are hospitalised under care of the Kaduna state NMA.
The association said Monday morning it had contacted families of the deceased and “arrangements are in motion to convey the bodies back to Ekiti State.”
The conference is under way, but in their honour, doctors from tomorrow will wear “black band on the left arm over [their] white overall,” said NMA president, Dr Kayode Obembe.
