Doctors urge FG to meet demands before ultimatum expires

The chairman of Kaduna state chapter of NMA, Dr. Aliyu Usman Bappa, at the end of an emergency executive council meeting held in Kaduna said their grudges with FG include the delay to inaugurate the governing board of the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN); poor budgetary provision for health and poor funding of training and research; gross irregularity in the implementation of the Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System (IPPS) and non-payment of doctors salary for over three months among others.
He called on federal government to establish with immediate effect the office of Surgeon General, outsourcing, automation, computerisation as well as strengthen Public Private Partnership (PPP) in public hospitals.
He also urged FG to address the issue of insecurity of doctors; gross abuse of relativity in the salary of professionals in the health sector in line with international best practice.
The desire to give FG four weeks’ grace he said was born out of the desire of the doctors to still negotiate and dialogue over the lingering issues affecting their profession.
