In a communiqué signed by the association president, Dr Jibril Ibrahim, acting secretary general Udu Chijoike Udu and the Public relation officer Dr Ilukanuno Chinedu, NARD resolved to sustain the strike saying the proposition brought by the government during their negotiations fall short of their recommendation.
NARD had embarked on an indefinite strike a week ago after it demanded that government must produce a blue-print on residency training of doctors which must include training modules on overseas training and local ones.
They also demanded that the irregularities in the implementation of the IPPIS must be sorted while calling on the Enugu State government to extend the implementation of CONMESS to all its members in the Enugu state teaching hospital.
But rising from its extra ordinary National Executive Council meeting the doctors resolved not to call off the strike until “all outstanding salaries and allowances of our members (house officers and residents doctors) are paid in full with immediate effects.”
Meanwhile the minister of health Professor Onyebuchi Chukwu told State House correspondent yesterday that strike was not the right option, noting that the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) did not support the industrial action.
He accused the striking resident doctors of not appreciating the fact that President Goodluck Jonathan had since 2012 been sending them for foreign training.
