A new documentary on female political participation in Nigeria, Double Minority, is set to premiere on July 14 in Abuja.

Produced by Daria Media, supported by the MacArthur Foundation, the film follows nine Nigerian women who contested various elective positions in the 2023 general elections.

Africa Director of the MacArthur Foundation, Dr Kole Shettima, said the political exclusion of women continues to damage Nigeria’s development and global standing.

“The political status of women is a development indicator,” he said. “Nigeria must choose between inclusive governance and continued decline.”

Executive Producer Kadaria Ahmed said the documentary aims to challenge decades of policy stagnation and highlight the urgent need for gender parity in governance.

“Female exclusion from elective offices and governance is not just bad for women, it’s bad for the country,” she said.

The premiere will feature a panel discussion moderated by broadcast journalist Nabilah Usman of Radio Now 95.3FM.
