The ten-week spectacle is set to be arranged in a league format with the team at the top at the end of proceedings taking home the coveted winner’s trophy.
Games will only be played on Sundays with teams like Jabi team led by son of the deceased Isa Dongonyaro, Nasiru Lukat’s Maitama team and hosts Nura Kangiwa’s Asokoro team will all be battling to be placed at the top of the league at the end of the events in May.
Other teams taking part include Mustapha Junaidu’s Wuse Team, which also has Muhammad Baba and Garki team led by Major Bello and Abdulmalik Badamasi
Speaking about the competition, Isa Dongonyaro said it will go a long way to honour his mother who spent all her life in the service of others without discrimination.
“I must acknowledge the club’s tremendous magnanimity in joining our family to remember mama, what she stands for, her principles and non-discriminatory way of life and we pray to Allah to grant her eternal rest” Dongonyaro said while also calling on individuals and corporate bodies to contribute to the success of the events by advertising or sponsoring the various teams.
Speaking to Daily Trust yesterday, the club captain Mustapha Junaidu said it is the first time in Nigeria that a league format event like this will be hosted and he’s confident that the ten weeks of action would be exciting for players and spectators alike.
The opening game today will see Asokoro take on Maitama before Wuse tackle Garki.
