Dolphin got off to a flying start with a 1-0 win over last year’s runners-up Sunshine of Akure at the Liberation Stadium in Port Harcourt.

It was the same result recorded last year, when Ghanaian-born Owusu Addae gave the host the lone goal win over their arch rivals last season.

At the Kano Pillars Stadium in Kano, host Kano Pillars defeated visiting Niger Tornadoes 1-0 to pick the maximum points at stake.

Last year’s third place finishers Warri Wolves held host Rangers to a 0-0 draw at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium Enugu. The same result was recorded in Ilorin where Kwara United hosted Ocean Boys of Yenagoa, while Wikki Tourists edged out Heartland 1-0 in Bauchi.

At the Dipo Dina Stadium, newcomers Rising Stars and Akwa United settled for a goalless draw, while Enyimba defeated ABS 2-0 in Aba. The same result was recorded in Gombe where host Gombe United defeated Lobi Stars. The match between Shooting Stars and Sharks of Port Harcourt ended 2-1 in favour of hosts Shooting Stars.
