Fourth-placed Dolphin are expected to beat relegation-threatened Ocean Boys at home in a rescheduled game to move into third place on 32 points, same as leaders Pillars and Rangers.

The Port Harcourt club has an inferior goal difference to Pillars and Rangers.

However, they could then move to top spot if they get a result in their final re-arranged fixture at Wikki Tourists on Wednesday.

Dolphin front man Emma Nwachi said they have put behind them their elimination from the CAF Champions League and their focus now is to defend their league crown.

“We were not happy that we could not go beyond this level in CAF Champions League. Our aim was to reach the final at least, but our elimination is in the past now,” said Nwachi.

“We have been in camp since we return from the game and we are set to win the league this season so as to return to feature in the Champions League next year as Nigeria champions.

“We are three points behind Kano and Rangers but we are determined to catch up with them and I don’t see Ocean Boys stopping us.”

In the other rescheduled games on Sunday, Akwa United play host to Sunshine Stars at the Uyo Township Stadium, while Heartland tackle Warri Wolves at home.

Sunshine Stars forward Dele Olorundare said they will go to Akwa to fight.

“Akwa United have been doing well despite just returning to premier league, we won’t underrate them as we are going there to fight to get a point at least, if not a win,” said the striker who has been in sparkling form both in the league and the Champions League.

Akwa have shot to ninth position from 15th place after a 2-1 home win over Warri Wolves in another rescheduled tie on Wednesday.

Sunshine Stars are 11th in the standings on 25 points.
