Domestic Observers for the Presidential and National Assembly elections in Gombe on Sunday described election in the South Senatorial District as most peaceful with high turnout of voters.
Mr Agrih Sukukuru, the Chief Orientation and Mobilisation Officer, National Orientation Agency (NOA) in Kaltungo Council, spoke in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kaltungo.
Sukukuru said he has been observing elections in Nigeria since 1999, saying that he never witnessed elections like this.
According to him, I was able to go round many polling units and observed that the election was peaceful and orderly.
Sukukuru said the electorate displayed maturity on the announcement of results at their respective polling units.
He attributed the success recorded to fervent prayers and high level of awareness among others factors.
The mobilisation officer also observed that some INEC ad hoc staff were not fully trained, saying some of them found it difficult to fill in the result sheets.
According to him, this resulted in the delay of submission of the results to their respective collation centres.
Another observer, Mr Luka Wakili, described the polls as different from the previous ones in state and in the federation.
Wakili commended INEC and all the stakeholders for the success.
He said this had shown that democracy has come to stay in Nigeria.
Wakili urged Nigerians to maintain the tempo ahead of the March 9 Governorship and House of Assembly elections.
He said, “This is to ensure that it is peaceful, free, fair and credible like last Saturday elections.’’ (NAN)
