The son of a former Nigeria international, Dominic Iorfa jnr, has extended his stay at English Championship side, Sheffield Wednesday to 2026.

The former England junior international joined the Owls in January 2019 when he moved over from Premier League side Wolves.

Iorfa has since made 142 appearances in blue and white, chipping in with five goals from the back along the way.

The first of that quintet was particularly memorable, in the dying derby embers on debut at Rotherham.

He went on to lift Wednesday’s Player of the Year award for the 2019/20 season.

The club in a statement said the 29-year-old has proven equally at home in a central defensive berth or at right back, offering valuable versatility across the rearguard.

Iorfa was part of the team that secured Championship promotion at Wembley in May 2023 and played a key role in the Owls’ dramatic second tier survival last time out.

The contract extension has come as exciting news to his immediate family and friends who are proud of him.

A close family member who spoke to Daily Trust on phone said “We are all happy with the news and congratulate Junior on this achievement.

“By offering him a fresh contract, Sheffield Wednesday have acknowledged his invaluable contributions and demonstrated their confidence in his ability to continue to serve them.

“As a family we are all happy and grateful to God for enabling Dominic Iorfa jnr to maintain his father’s legacies in football,” he said.
