Youths have been enjoined to strive to be employers of labour rather than rely on white collar jobs that are not readily available.

This was stated by the Vice chancellor Federal University Gashua, Yobe state Prof. Andrew Haruna. 

He stated this at the sideline of an event organized to honour him with the vice chancellor of the year award by the ECOWAS youth council in Abuja.

Prof Haruna noted that the Nigerian youths can compete with their peers across the world if there is an enabling environment for them to explore and develop their immense potentials.

He stressed that the youths should acquire skill acquisition hand in hand with the western education to excel in the present labour market that is highly competitive.

Speaking president of ECOWAS youth council Mr Emmanuel William  said that the  regional body in charge of the young people of West Africa based in Cape Verde  voted  Professor Andrew Haruna as vice chancellor of the year due to his ability  to manage staff and students effectively in ensuring the betterment of education in federal university of Gasua in Yobe state. 

“It is an outstanding one and that is why we nominated and voted him as the distinguished vice chancellor of the year. He also bagged the Thomas Sankara leadership and educational development award of the year,” he added.
