The Director, Institute of Education and Professional Development in the University of Uyo, Prof. Antiabong Ekong, has said the country’s economy is in a mess because inexperienced leaders occupy decision-making positions.

Prof Ekong, who made the statement during the 7th Annual Conference on Education on ‘Utilizing Educational Instrument for Nigeria’s National Development’, organized by the Faculty of Education, University Of Uyo, added that Nigeria has the potential of rising to the level of developed countries in the world.

“Nigeria has the potential of developing to the level of developed nations and to grow strong. But little or nothing has been realized of the potential. It is only in Nigeria that when you write SSCE and you fail all subjects, you can become the president of the country.”

He said sustainable national development can be achieved if education is given the pride of place as a veritable instrument.
