The head of political science of Federal University Lokoja, Professor Rotimi Ajayi admonished youths in kogi state to avoid indulging in social vices in any forms for them to be productive in the society and be involved in act of governance.

The varsity Don who was a Guest lecturer at the 2 -day Youth Engagement Summit disclosed this in Lokoja yesterday at the grand finale of the programme .

He urged youth in the state not to view education as a scam, but as a stepping up ladder that will move them to reach the roof of life and achieve their destiny in the society.

“Embrace education to be enlightened and responsible in the society. Education is never a scam. Be not be discouraged by the issue of unemployment in the society; get yourself prepared down academically, for a job will come by along the line.

“For you to reach the desired height in the society , avoid social vices like cultism, rape, drug trafficking ,among others, for all these vices are hiccups of life”, he said .

Professor Ajayi stressed further that kogi is endowed with with enough mineral resources deposits across the state, beside the supply of abundant human resources that can drive the state economy to a desired height .

“Is only your focus in education that can make you to be part of these human resources and the turning around of the abundance resources to better the society of kogi”, he stressed.

He therefore advised the youth to take advantage of the window of opportunity provided by governor Ahmed Ododo by his principle of youth inclusiveness in act of governance, which has rolled in several youth into his administration to play roles at different capacities.

In his remarks, the Kogi state commissioner of Youths and Sports Development, Monday Anyebe challenged the youths of kogi to prepare and align with the present administration in order to to be part of ongoing transformation and political leadership of the state.

Anyebe stated that the summit was organised to inspire the youths in the state to equip them for the task of changing the old narratives which had led to the sidelining of youths in every scheme of things, resulting in under development of the state.

He added that the idea of the youths being good for tomorrow leadership no longer hold sway in the present dispensation,stressing that the present thinking in the country has placed premium of responsibility on youth leadership across the nation .

“In the new trend all over the world, the youth are now the key drivers of the politics, technology and economy of states or nations, we should not fold our arms, but key into this new narratives to develop our own”, he said.

The youth submit was witnessed by stakeholders of youth equations, including leaders and members of National Association of Kogi state Students (NAKOSS), National Youths Council of Nigeria(NYSCN), National Association of NIgerian Students(NANS) and Nigeria Youth Service Corps (NYSC),among others.
