Yusuf, a Professor of Sociology, University of Ilorin, lamented that many public workers regarded government’s service as nobody’s work, showing little or no commitment.
Delivering the 151 Inaugural lecture of University of Ilorin titled: “Work, Industry and Society: The Synergy that mirrors the reality of our everyday existence”, the don stressed that it was high time the poor attitude to work by civil servants was stopped.
He noted that most public servants engage in private business where they demonstrate commitment, saying the reverse characterised their attitide to government work.
“Public sector workers in Nigeria are associated with negative attitudes like lateness to work, idleness, nonchalance, low commitment, among others. All tiers of government must take measures to reverse these attitudes.”
