A Don at the University of Abuja, Professor Maxwell Nwachukwu Opara, has expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for the establishment of the South East Development Commission (SEDC), saying that the President’s action was a reflection of his commitment to fostering national unity, equity, and regional development.

In a letter he addressed to the President in Abuja, Opara who is a Professor of Veterinary Parasitology and Entomology, thanked the President for the crop of well-rounded professionals and technocrats appointed into the Board of the Commission, saying that they possess the requisite capacity to turn the economy of the South East around.

He was particularly effusive with praises on the appointment of Dr. Clifford Ogbede as the Executive Director of Agriculture, Rural Development and Natural Resources. He said the choice of Ogbede, given his international pedigree, was a commendable move by Mr. President.

His words: “The selection of Dr. Clifford Ogbede as Executive Director for Agriculture, Rural Development, and Natural Resources, is a commendable move.

“Dr. Ogbede’s wealth of experience in advancing Nigeria’s economic interests on the international stage makes his appointment a perfect fit for this critical role. This decision underscores your administration’s dedication to merit-based appointments that prioritise the nation’s progress’.

According to Professor Opara, the establishment of the SEDC represents a new dawn for the South East region, adding that it holds the promise of healing historical wounds and fostering the desired reconciliation by addressing the lingering effects of the Nigerian Civil War.

He also thanked the leadership of the National Assembly for their unwavering support and prompt passage of the SEDC Bill.

He concluded by stating that with this historic step, the people of South East have been given a renewed sense of hope and inclusion in the Nigerian project.
