A renowned Professor of Agricultural Economics and Policy, GB Ayoola, has led Voices for Food Security (VFS) – a coalition of Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), community-based associations, farmers’ associations and Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) – that are working in the agricultural sector to this year’s National Agricultural Show.

Voices for Food Security is a coalition of 25 like-minded groups pushing for good policies that will enhance food security and good agricultural governance practices that will ensure the right to food for every Nigerian.

Prof. Ayoola, who is the Executive Director of Farm and Infrastructure Foundation (FIF), which currently chairs the coalition, said VFS was “for the purpose of galvanising our voices in such a way that we remove the noise element from our collective voice and effectively deliver it to our target audience who are the policy authorities so that they will hear us louder and clearer.”

He said FIF, which chairs the VFS – an organisation for promoting policy best practices, had rendered a policy that brought about fertiliser policies, national agricultural seed policies and the Green Alternative Policy for Nigeria, adding that, “We worked with the government to achieve all of these.

“We discovered that eventually our goals are the same, therefore, it is better to harness our voices and join them together.”
