Dean of the School of Continuing Education, Bayero University Kano (BUK), Professor Salisu Shehu, yesterday raised alarm over the rate of youth’s fundamentalism in the nation.

He was speaking while chairing a roundtable with the theme ‘Youth fundamentalism and de-radicalization in Nigeria: The way forward’ organised by Centre for Gender Studies of the university in collaboration with Rosa Luxemburg foundation.

He stressed that the hope of every nation lies in its youth’s productivity.

According to him, the existing wide generational gap has contributed a lot in today’s youth fundamentalism because they lacked proper mentoring.

In a paper titled ‘Causes and implications of fundamentalism’, the Deputy Director of the Centre for Gender Studies, Dr. Maikano Madaki, highlighted that intolerance, collapse of family and educational institutions among others are the major causes of fundamentalism among youths.
