Its Managing Director, Mr Haruna Momoh, made the appeal in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.
He said that the appeal became necessary due to the petroleum products spill at Animatu Ilo Street in Ejigbo area of Lagos on Aug. 24.
He said that erection of buildings on pipelines’ right of way is dangerous to residents.
According to him, this act has led to oil theft and prevention of government agencies from detecting sources of oil spill.
He said that some of the corporation’s engineers had been deployed in the scene to detect the cause of the spill.
“The corporation’s appeal is that residents should erect buildings at least about 30 metres away from the pipelines,’’ he said.
Mr Ibrahim Bamgbose, a resident in Ejigbo, said residents association had earlier reported the spill to the police at Ejigbo. (NAN)
