‘Don’t give constitutional role to traditional rulers’

Ugboaja, who also kicked against legally institutionalizing zoning of political offices, blamed ineptitude by politicians for most of the problems currently bedeviling the nation.
He said “I come here and I hear traditional rulers say they want a new position and I am confused because they already have governors; ex governors are now traditional rulers, ex ministers are now traditional rulers, ambassadors are now traditional rulers and they still want a position.
“Maybe we will pierce that veil of royalty so that they can come back and contest elections. Abia State is already leading; there is a traditional ruler in the Abia State House of Assembly.”
On zoning, he said, “I come from a place called Mkpa in Bende Local Government of Abia State. The British that we have lampooned gave my community a railway station because they appreciated that agric produce needed to be evacuated.”
