Speaking during an interactive session with journalists in Lokoja to mark the 22nd anniversary of the creation of the state, Governor Wada said the state is better prepared for this year’s flood.
“Those living in flood areas should move out and should not wait for the flood to come before moving, as no one can tell when and how it would come. We have carried out enough sensitization on the need for them to move out,” he said.
He said the state intends to pull down some of the houses illegally built on water ways in Lokoja, adding that the 272 houses built in the state capital, would be used to house Lokoja flood victims, while higher grounds have been identified in the nine affected local governments for those that would be displaced there.
He said his administration did not divert the funds meant for victims of last year’s flood, adding that the relief funds were judiciously utilized.
The governor said about N900 million was received as donation from the Federal Government, well meaning  personalities and organizations across the country, and that N640 million out of the money was spent on the construction of 272 housing units as re- settlement centre in the state capital.
He further stated that N139 million was distributed to displaced persons across nine local government areas affected by the disaster.
