Dr. Olubusoye stated this while presenting a paper titled: “Statistical Literacy and Empirical Modelling for National Transformation,” at the University of Ibadan.
He said President Jonathan and states governors needed statistical education to achieve genuine transformation, noting: “Some leaders only set agenda without effective evaluation and monitoring system. This is the problem of governance in Nigeria.”
Olubusoye said that the bane of transformation agenda in Nigeria was the absence of quantifiable frameworks for tracking progress and evaluating their implementation.
He opined that a critical mass of the Nigerian state must be statistically literate, including the president and governors, for holistic transformation.
“The basic ingredients for any meaningful transformation include setting up of quantifiable targets, developing performance indicators and establishing framework for data collection, management, processing and reporting,” he stressed.
