A notable northern group, Arewa Think Tank (ATT), has hailed elder statesman and Pro-Chancellor/Chairman of the Governing Council of the University of Ibadan (UI), Oyo State, Chief Bisi Akande, for donating his allowances to support science scholarships for deserving students.
A statement by the Convener of ATT, Muhammad Alhaji Yakubu, noted with satisfaction that Nigeria still had citizens who were philanthropic and caring enough for the less privileged in the society.
“We at Arewa Think Tank are happy to hear that Chief Akande takes his appointment of pro-chancellorship as a national call to service, for which he said he does not intend to receive any remuneration,” the statement read.
Similarly, the group has commended the Comptroller-General of Customs, Mr Bashir Adeniyi, and Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) for intercepting 12 containers filled with military/paramilitary equipment and illicit drugs valued at about N31 billion by the Area 2 Command in Onne, Rivers State.
