Donor agency spends N500m on Jigawa education

The Education Sector Support Programme in Nigeria (ESSPIN) operating under DFID has spent about N500 million in the last six years on education in Jigawa State.
The acting state team leader, Hezekiah Odeyale, made this known during a two-day workshop organized for education secretaries in the state. He said the money was expended on teacher training, purchase of teaching and learning materials and production of school uniform. Other things provided were toilet facilities and boreholes.
In a related development, Executive Chairman of Jigawa State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Salisu Zakari, recently said the state is planning to recruits 4, 000 teachers.
He said over 1,000 teachers without qualifications are attending various NCE programs and so far, 800 have graduated.
