Zamfara State Commissioner of Police, Muhammad Shehu Dalijan, on Monday urged residents in the state to avoid participating in the nationwide protest scheduled for Thursday.
In a meeting with leaders of various groups in Gusau, the commissioner warned that participating in such protest could enable miscreants to loot goods and properties.
“Some criminals plan to use the protest as a cover to break into shops and stores to steal goods. Joining the protest will allow them to execute their plans. This will only worsen the situation, as bad actors will exploit it to defraud innocent citizens,” he said.
Dalijan noted that last year, about 87% of farmers in Zamfara could not cultivate their land due to bandit attacks, but around 75% have returned to farming this year. He warned that allowing the protest to proceed could reverse this progress.

In response, Malam Umar Hassan, Vice Chairman of Izalatil Bid’ah Wa’Iqamatis Sunnah, Zamfara State chapter, advised the police commissioner to urge the federal government to address at least two of the three issues prompting the protest: subsidy removal, hunger, and insecurity.
