The Pharmacists Council of Nigeria (PCN) has warned pharmacies and  patent medicine shops against breaking its seals placed in their premises in Ebonyi State.

This followed the sealing of 345 patent medicine shops and three pharmacies across the 13 local government areas of the state.

The Registrar of the Council, Pharmacist Elijah Mohammed, gave the warning in Abakaliki during a three-day sensitisation visit in the state.

“It is a criminal offense to break the federal government seal. Anyone found to have broken the seal placed on their premises will be prosecuted to a logical conclusion,” he said.

Mohammed said prescription medicines should be sold under the supervision of a pharmacist and that control drugs are also to  be handled exclusively by  pharmacists.

He said 566 premises were visited during the programme. These include 49 pharmacies and 507 patent medicine shops.
