The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ajao Estate Police Station with five other officers of the Lagos State Police Command were on Monday ordered to leave their duty posts pending when they will be reposted for allegedly allowing nightclubs to operate in their jurisdiction.

Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, who announced the redeployment during his weekly meetings with Principal Staff Officers, Area Commanders and their respective DPOs at POWA Hall, GRA, Ikeja, on Monday, noted that the activities of the nightclubs were against the COVID-19 protocols.

A visibly angry Odumosu said the DPO of Ajao Estate Division and his senior officers in the division have been relieved of their duties at the division and that they would be posted to yet-to-be-disclosed offices in the state.

He said the DPO and his officers allowed social activities at Garbana Nightclub on Sunday, March 7, 2021. And during a raid of the place by detectives, about 41 clubbers were arrested at the club between 1:40am and 2:30am.

Odumosu had earlier warned area commanders and DPOs to enforce COVID-19 protocols in their areas and that on no account should any of them allow gross violation of the protocols in the state.

“After a series of warnings, many still violated these protocols with impunity. I still want to reiterate and warn DPOs against promoting violation of COVID-19 protocols in their areas, particularly clubbing and non-wearing of nose masks as charity begins at home. I will pay your areas surprise visits to catch those affected,” he said.
