Mandela School of Medicine, part of the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN), and present appointment at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Walter Sisulu University, Dr. Aladeyelu’s new research program fuses cutting-edge anatomical research with advanced surgical modeling, promising to bridge longstanding gaps between anatomy, imaging, and operative precision.
Having earned his Ph.D. in Health Sciences (Clinical Anatomy) from the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) in 2023, Dr. Aladeyelu is no stranger to complex anatomical investigation. His doctoral dissertation centered on temporal bone pneumatization – a delicate, highly variable structure that directly impacts the planning and success of surgical interventions for ear and skull-base disorders.
By applying high-resolution computed tomography (CT) imaging and advanced morphometric analyses, he classified pneumatization patterns in the mastoid air cell system, creating tools that enhance preoperative planning and reduce surgical risk.
His research is particularly relevant for understanding and managing otitis media, a leading cause of hearing loss in infants and children, by identifying how air cell development relates to susceptibility to infection and anatomical variation.
