The Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and the armed group AFC/M23 have reached a mutual commitment to resolve their conflict peacefully.
In a joint statement, both sides confirmed they held peace talks in Doha, Qatar, facilitated by the Qatari government.
The discussions were described as “frank and constructive,” leading to an agreement to work toward a truce that strengthens the existing ceasefire.
Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to an immediate cessation of hostilities and rejected any form of hate speech or intimidation.

They called on local communities to honor these commitments as well. This agreement is seen as a foundation for continued dialogue aimed at addressing the root causes of the conflict in eastern DRC and developing practical steps toward a lasting resolution.
The DRC and AFC/M23 pledged to respect the agreement during and beyond the ongoing talks.
They also urged the Congolese public, religious leaders, and media to support and promote this message of peace and reconciliation.
The peace talks were attended by Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Rwandan President Paul Kagame, and DRC President Félix Tshisekedi.
The leaders acknowledged progress made in previous peace efforts, particularly the Luanda and Nairobi processes, and the recent EAC-SADC summit in Tanzania.
Kagame and Tshisekedi reaffirmed their commitment to the unconditional ceasefire agreed upon at the summit.
They also expressed the importance of continuing the Doha dialogue to solidify the path to lasting peace.
The representatives of the DRC and the AFC/M23 also expressed their sincere appreciation to the State of Qatar for its continued efforts and unwavering commitment in facilitating these peace talks.
They stated that Qatar helped advance dialogue and promote mutual understanding.
The State of Qatar hosted a bilateral meeting in Doha on March 18, 2025, as part of efforts to ease the situation in the Eastern DRC.
