Dr. Busayo Olamide Tomoh has been inducted as a Fellow of the National Institute of Professional Engineers and Scientists (NIPES)—the highest grade of membership awarded by the Institute.

This prestigious designation, officially conferred on March 9, 2025, recognizes Dr. Tomoh’s contributions to environmental health engineering, public health systems innovation, and capacity building in science and technology across Nigeria and the global South.

Founded with the vision to advance scientific leadership and promote engineering excellence in service to national development, NIPES is one of Nigeria’s foremost multidisciplinary professional bodies, encompassing experts in civil, environmental, biomedical, and public health engineering, as well as scientific researchers and innovators.

Attaining the status of Fellow in NIPES is a rare and distinguished honor, reserved for professionals who have demonstrated sustained excellence, leadership, and impactful scholarship in their fields. It is the institute’s most revered title, held by a select group of individuals who have shaped policy, pioneered scientific innovation, and significantly advanced Nigeria’s development priorities.

Dr. Tomoh’s elevation to this elite circle is a testament to her unwavering dedication to interdisciplinary problem-solving, grassroots health advocacy, and global leadership in environmental and public health strategy.

With an Honorary PhD in Public Health, a Master’s degree in Environmental Sciences and Technology, and over 35 peer-reviewed scientific publications, she has emerged as a powerhouse in public health innovation—integrating engineering principles, scientific inquiry, and civic engagement to improve healthcare access, sanitation, and climate resilience across underserved communities.

Her appointment as a NIPES Fellow reflects a rigorous vetting process—one that evaluates not only academic achievements but also real-world impact, professional integrity, and the capacity to mentor and lead within the broader scientific community.

In recognizing her, NIPES has affirmed that Dr. Tomoh has risen to the top of her profession, making contributions that resonate far beyond academia and into the lives of ordinary citizens across Nigeria and beyond.

Dr. Tomoh’s work has spanned various sectors and institutions, including roles with USAID E-WASH, where she developed and implemented WASH interventions in Imo, Niger, and Taraba states; the National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA), where she contributed to national documentation efforts on HIV/AIDS programs; and UNICEF Nigeria, where she led digital storytelling initiatives on climate and youth activism.

Her most recent role as Head of Operations at Media Insight Communications Services Ltd. saw her managing multi-state research initiatives and designing evidence-based public health programs from 2019 to 2022.

A prolific researcher, Dr. Tomoh has published studies in top-tier multidisciplinary journals. Her work on topics such as telehealth accessibility in rural Nigeria, health system resilience during the COVID-19 pandemic, and AI-assisted wearable diagnostics reflects her forward-thinking approach to solving public health challenges.

Her recent publication, “Assessing the Impact of Telehealth Interventions on Rural Healthcare Accessibility”, presents a scalable model that has informed both national dialogue and international interest in health equity solutions. In addition to her scientific achievements, Dr. Tomoh has consistently demonstrated a passion for mentorship and education.

Through affiliations with the Commonwealth Academy of Leadership and Management (CALM) and the Young Influencers Network, she has mentored emerging STEM professionals and advocated for greater representation of women in science and technology.
