Akinola, the first of the two winners of the star prize for Southwest region draw could hardly hide his excitement as he declared that the prize was too much for his status, hence his immediate plan to dispose of the car. The star-winner who had held guests spell-bound for few minutes before showing up at the Sky pavilion, venue of the ceremony, disclosed that he had to call in the police to accompany him to the venue.

Shortly after he was electronically chosen, a call was put through to Akinola and he confirmed that the winning account number did belong to him, “but I have to call my friends and my boss to tell them what has happened. We were all confused, but my boss said that I should go to the police station to report to forestall any funny occurence.

“I was not sure at first. So I had to go to the police station to request for police protection,” he told Oodua Trust. He hardly finished the remark when a police motorbike from Ibara Divisional Police station, with two senior officers arrived the venue.

Still not sure of his new status, the Ordinary National Diploma (OND) holder in accounting from the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY), looked confused and bewildered, as the bank officials and other guests attempted to force smiles out of him.

“I am too much for this. I can not maintain it. I will surely sale it,” the new winner, said. Even as he again withdrew to his shell. He later thanked the bank for the gesture, advising other prospective customers to patronize the bank.

The second winner, Franklin Olorunfemi from Ijoko Ota described himself as a trader based at Ota and was told to report to the bank branch at Ota today to collect his car. 20 motorbikes were won by customers from Ilorin, Ado-Ekiti, Ondo and Oyo states at the well-attended ceremony.

The Group Managing Director, Mahmoud Lai Alabi, who was represented by the Regional Director (Southwest) of the bank, Mr. Muyiwa Adedeji earlier in his welcome address noted that the promo was designed to celebrate the bank’s customers who have kept faith with it in the last 20 years.

Adedeji explained that the bank’s choice of having the promo tagged: Reward Promo was because it is “time to appreciate and reward loyal customers who have remained with us in the thick and thin in spite of the competition and challenges in the banking industry over the years.”
