Drama offers numerous benefits to school children and improves their imagination, Mr. Bonat Tagwai has said.

Mr Tagwai, a speaker at the Annual Inter-House Quiz and Spelling Competition of Merrybell Academy, Jikwoyi, Abuja, said drama is a good way to help improve the brains of school pupils.

He said drama increases children’s vocabulary, allows them to develop happy dispositions as well as helps them to develop self control.  

He therefore urged parents to prioritize early investment in child education.

“Let us not joke with the education of our children; we do not want a country where children maim, kill and destroy properties, but a country where children will grow up to become professionals and entrepreneurs,” he said.

In his address, the Director, National Orientation Agency, FCT Directorate, Mr. David Dogo, said children should be taught moral values in school to enable them become responsible citizens.

According to him, the country would only develop when both old and the young learn the national values which include “discipline, integrity, religious tolerance, honesty and dignity of human labour.”

The director of the school, Mrs Gloria Jeremiah, said besides contending with the ability to maintain quality standard despite the backlog of fees payment by parents, the multiple taxations imposed by government on private schools has continued to be a major challenge to smooth financial running of schools.

She said the falling standard of education could be improved on by employing highly qualified personnel in schools.

Mrs Jeremiah said in most of the schools, over 30 percent of children owed school fees because of the economic hardships.

Commenting on the re-introduction of history as a subject in primary schools, she said it would allow children to know the past and prepare for the future.
