The Association of Water Well Drilling Rig Owners and Practitioners (AWDROP) is planning a pilot study in six states to deliver potable water under its new scheme, the National Borehole Rejuvenation and Revitalization Programme (Na-BORE).
Speaking at the maiden conference in Abuja at the weekend, the National President of AWDROP, Mr. Michael Ale, said the programme would be launched across the 36 states and the FCT to generate revenue through borehole drilling.
 “Proceeds would be used to rehabilitate all abandoned government water projects and create employment for youth,” he said.
 The states mentioned for the pilot phase include Osun, Benue, Plateau, Kwara, Ondo and Oyo where the programme would help to build capacity for young people so they could generate employment in the sector.
It will also help for independent monitoring and supervision of government borehole projects, Ale added.
He enjoined the federal government to patronise only accredited members of the association with good experience in abstraction of underground water to stem the spate of borehole project failures.
