An Upper Area Court 1 sitting in Kasuwa Nama in Jos, on Tuesday, sentenced a 20-year-old driver, Abdullahi Bashiru, to six months’ imprisonment for attempted theft.

Bashiru was tried on a three-count charge of trespass, mischief and attempted theft.

The judge, Lawal Suleiman, however gave the convict an option of N4,000 for trespass and mischief each as well as N2,000 for attempted theft, saying that the sentences would run concurrently.

Suleiman also ordered the accused to pay a compensation of N3,000 to the authority of the museum – the complainant.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Ezekiel Galadima, told the court that the case was reported on March 12 at the A Division Police Station by one Seth Kanu of National Museum, the complainant.

Galadima said the accused, who resided at Sarkin Fulani Street, was caught damaging the door of one of the offices at the museum.

On arraignment, the accused pleaded guilty to the three-count charge. (NAN)
