Driver Dies in Lone Crash on Oshodi-Apapa Expressway

A yet to be identified driver lost his life in a tragic lone-vehicle accident on the Oshodi-Apapa Expressway in Lagos on Saturday.
The fatal crash occurred at Charity Bus Stop, inward Iyana Isolo, when a Honda Pilot Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) reportedly lost control and overturned several times before coming to a stop.
The impact of the crash was severe, leading to the immediate death of the driver, who became trapped in the wreckage of the vehicle.
Officials of the the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), who were carrying out routine traffic monitoring duties in the area, quickly responded to the scene alongside officers from the Mosafejo Police Division.

The responders successfully extricated the deceased from the mangled vehicle while maintaining traffic flow and preventing further accidents along the busy corridor.
Following the recovery operation, officials of the State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit (SEHMU) evacuated the victim’s remains to a public mortuary in line with established public health procedures.
The wrecked Honda Pilot SUV was subsequently handed over to officers of the Mosafejo Police Division for further investigation.
Reacting to the incident, LASTMA General Manager, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, expressed sadness over the loss of life and extended condolences to the family of the deceased.
He urged motorists to exercise caution while driving, obey speed limits and comply with traffic regulations, particularly during late-night and early-morning journeys when visibility and alertness may be reduced.
Bakare-Oki warned against reckless driving, dangerous overtaking and excessive speeding, stressing that road users must prioritise safety at all times.
“The sanctity and preservation of human life must remain paramount in the conduct of every road user. No journey is so urgent as to justify compromising safety,” he said.
