A driver, whose identity is yet to be ascertained, at the weekend, escaped as his vehicle was gutted by fire in Benin City, the Edo State capital.
City & Crime gathered that the incident happened when his Toyota Hilux van was gutted by fire on the Akpakpava Road by Dawson junction at about 11 am.
It was learnt that the vehicle was caught in the traffic when it suddenly engulfed in fire but the occupants immediately jumped out of the car.
The driver was said to have been helpless as he doesn’t have a fire extinguisher to put out the fire.

A witness said it took the intervention of people around to put out the fire using soap and water.
He said, “Both passengers and the driver’s seat were completely burnt but the fire couldn’t spread to the engine side before it was extinguished using soap and water.’’
