A pickup driver has escaped while a suspected cable vandal has been arrested by vigilantes in Shedda village in Kwali Area Council of the FCT along the Abuja-Lokoja highway.
A vigilante, Shedrack Barnabas, said the suspect was arrested on Tuesday around 9pm.
He said the suspect, alongside three others (at large), cut down cables from high tension electric poles and were packing them inside a pickup when one of them was apprehended, and that three of the gang members, including the driver, upon sighting the vigilantes, fled into the bush.
He said the suspect and the vehicle had been handed over to the police at the Kwali Police Division.
A police source at the Kwali division, who preferred anonymity, said the suspect was in custody while investigation was ongoing.
