A 25-year-old driver, Rasaq Ibrahim, who allegedly hit and killed a year-old baby strapped on her mother’s back yesterday appeared before a Lagos magistrate’s court sitting in Ikeja.  

 The court heard that the accused, on February 5, 2017, drove his Volvo commercial vehicle recklessly and knocked down the baby, and her mother who was hawking on Ajibula Street, Ogunwemimo junction, Mafoluku, Oshodi, Lagos.

 Police prosecutor, Inspector Mathew Akhaluode, told the court that the baby, Limota Kamarudeen, died instantly while her mother, Tawa sustained injuries. 

Ibrahim, who was charged with dangerous driving and manslaughter, however, pleaded not guilty to the offences. Magistrate Y.R. Pinheiro granted him a N250,000 bail, and also ordered him to produce two sureties as part of the bail conditions.  

  The matter was adjourned to February 27, 2017 for mention.
