Driver knocks down kidnapper while escaping attack in Kaduna

A bus driver in Kaduna State knocked down one of the suspected kidnappers who attacked his vehicle while attempting to escape.

The incident occurred on Sunday around 6pm at Sabon-Kurutu junction, along the Hayin-Dam road in Kachia Local Government Area.

According to Malam Ahmadu Muazu, a resident of Katari, the driver was transporting passengers from Katari market back to Hayin-Dam village when the attack took place.

He said a group of armed bandits suddenly emerged from the bush and opened fire on the bus.

In a desperate move, the driver rammed into one of the attackers before fleeing the scene.

A female passenger, said to be a trader, sustained a gunshot wound and was rushed to a hospital in Katari, where she is currently receiving treatment.

Muazu added that two buses were traveling together from the market, and that the bandits also fired at the second bus. While attempting to escape, the driver of the second bus also struck one of the attackers.

He said all passengers from both buses were lucky to escape without being abducted.

The spokesperson for the Kaduna State Police Command, ASP Hassan Mansur, could not be reached for comment at the time of filing this report. A text message sent to his mobile phone was also not responded to.
