A 42-year-old driver with the Imo State Transport Corporation (ITC), identified as Okorie Agwu, has been remanded by a Family Court in Owerri for allegedly impregnating a 13-year-old girl.
Agwu, who hails from Arochukwu in Abia State, is said to be a father of five children and separated from his wife.
According to a non-governmental organisation, Virgin Hearts, which took interest in the case, Agwu confessed that he had on different occasions lured the 13-year-old with N100 into his vehicle, where he drove her to secluded areas to molest her.
The Convener of Virgin Hearts Foundation, Ms Peace Dike, said the molestation however continued after the first attempt, resulting into a six-month pregnancy.
The victim had reportedly told the police that Agwu, aside the N100, promised to buy her a cell-phone, if she becomes his friend.
This started, according to her, when she was in JSS 1 (2017) and continued every other day whenever she was returning from school.
She reportedly told the police that the day she yielded to Agwu’s advances, he drove her to a bush, tore her cloths and raped her, and she went home bleeding.
The victim reportedly lives with her grandfather and step grand-mother.
Ms. Dike added that the victim’s grandfather told the police that she (victim) was delivered at home by his daughter, who later got married to another person.
