The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has stated that aviation operations will be driven by drone technology to reduce cost and improve safety.
Keyamo made the disclosure in Abuja on Thursday at a one day workshop on ‘NAVAID’ drone advancement in Air Navigation and Safety
This workshop was designed to provide a deeper understanding of the challenges and opportunities in air navigation and how the integration of advanced drone technology can transform the aviation industry.
Keyamo, represented by the Director of Air Safety at the ministry, Chukwu Micheal, stated that, “The NavAid drones represent the new frontier in aerospace tools that not only enhance safety but also streamline operations, reduce costs, and pave the way for a more sustainable future.”
He added that, “Air navigation and safety have always been the cornerstone of the aviation industry. As air traffic continues to grow, the need for innovative, efficient, and reliable solutions has never been more critical. However, Nigeria is in a new era in aerospace, where cutting-edge technologies like the NavAid drones are revolutionising air navigation, safety, and operational efficiency.”
Also speaking, the Managing Director of Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), Engr Farouk Ahmed Umar, noted that as Nigeria continues to experience rapid growth in air traffic, urbanisation, and economic development, there is a need for efficient, safe, and sustainable air navigation systems.
Represented by Mr Jude Tayo, Director, Air Traffic, the MD added, “The safety of passengers, crew, and aircraft, as well as the seamless operation of our airspace, are paramount to maintaining Nigeria’s position as a leader in Africa’s aviation industry, which is what NavAid is developed to address.”
