The Emir of Fika and Chairman Council of Chiefs Yobe State, Dr. Muhammadu Abali Ibn Muhammadu Idrissa has described drug abuse as tool fueling the security challenges in the state.
The Emir stated this while hosting and organising a reception for journalists in his palace in Potiskum LGA.
He said the recent attack at the Gurjaje community in Fika LGA of the state, which resulted in the killing of 1 person and destroying over 100 houses has confirmed a nexus between drug abuse and the attack.
He said 60 per cent of the people in the affected areas are youths.
The Emir urged the state government and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to come up with strategic plans that will curtail the use of illicit drugs.
He also called on the government to provide development in the affected areas, saying there is a lot of economic hardship in the country.
