I think we are taking the drug issue across the country and particularly in parts of the north too lightly. While consuming beer is frowned upon in places like Kano, drug abuse is on the rise among the youth. It is enough that we do not have the tradition of isolating or rehabilitating mentally ill people, but instead let them roam the streets in rags. What’s worse is that the women are raped and sometimes walk the streets with their babies as though there is no government. In other countries ‘mad’ people cannot roam the streets the way they do in Nigeria. We must beware of the future.
