The Edo State command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) says it has secured the conviction of one Obiora Nkemokonam and arrested 86 other people suspected to be illicit drug traffickers between July and September 2017.
Obiora was sentenced to 10 months imprisonment for being in possession of 20 kilogrammes of cannabis while other cases are pending.
The Edo agency’s commander, Buba Wakawa, who disclosed this to journalists in Benin, yesterday, said 2,930kg of hard drugs were seized and 46.8 hectares of suspected cannabis farms were destroyed within the period.
He said “a breakdown of the seized drugs is: cannabis (2,929.6kg), Tramadol (159 grammes), Swino (four grammes), Vegha (26 grammes), Codeine (29 grammes) and Heroin (20 grammes).
The commander said two vehicles used in conveying cannabis were impounded while two motorcycles also used in cannabis sales were impounded.
