The joint border patrol team of the Nigeria Customs Service, Northwest zone, has intercepted drugs worth over N24 million at the borders in Kangiwa and Bachaka areas of Kebbi State.

While handing over the seized drugs to the Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Birnin Kebbi, the coordinator of the team, Comptroller Aminu Abubakar Danmusa, said the traffickers were intercepted while moving the drugs into the country through Bachaka and Kangiwa borders in Argungu and Arewa local government areas of Kebbi State.

Drugs intercepted include Cannabis Sativa (Indian Hemp) worth N18, 746,764 and 1000 pieces of diazepam worth N5, 743, 187, with a total paid value of N24,489,951.

He said “Kebbi borders are particularly vulnerable because it’s bordering Niger and Benin Republics. And as we know, Benin Republic is notorious for drug activities.”

He added that the drug business is harmful to the society, as such the NCS needs the support of the border communities to fight its menace in the country. 

While accepting the drugs from the NCS, the Commander, Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Kebbi Command, Suleman Usman, said the issue of drug and its consequences affects every Nigerian and should be treated as a national security issue.
