Drunk driver kills two in Ogun

A drunk truck driver on Wednesday crashed into a bus around Ota-Idiroko expressway in Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State, killing the bus driver and his motor boy on the spot.

Our correspondent gathered that the incident occurred at Castinjo/Ola bus stop along the highway.

Spokesman for the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, Babatunde Akinbiyi, confirmed this to newsmen in Abeokuta.

Quoting an eyewitness, Akinbiyi said the truck driver was speeding and in the process lost control of the wheels and rammed into the bus coming towards Ota.

He said the bus driver and his motorboy were killed on the spot.

Akinbiyi hinted that the killer driver and his motorboy fled the scene and disappeared into thin air.

The TRACE Spokesman said the wreckage of the bus had been cleared from the road, while the corpses have been deposited at Ifo General Hospital.

The statement partly reads “According to eyewitness accounts, the MAN Diesel truck with no number plate was driving inbound Idiroko from Ota when the driver, due to drunk-driving and excessive speed, lost control and rammed into the bus driving in the opposite direction from Idiroko to Ota.

“The driver of the bus and the motor boy died on the spot due to impact of the collision while the drunk driver of the truck and its motor boy ran away.

“The accidented vehicles (Truck and Bus) has been evacuated from the road to Onipanu Divisional Police Station, Ota, while the bodies of the dead had been deposited at Ifo General Hospital Morgue.”
