President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has received briefings from the Director General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Mr Tosin Adeola Ajayi amid the spike in security incidents.

A statement by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, said the meeting was to brief the President on the current security situation in the country.

Lately, Nigeria has witnessed renewed waves of insecurity, including the abduction of students in Kebbi and Niger states.

Daily Trust had reported that four days after Monday’s abduction of dozens of students from a secondary school in Maga, Kebbi State, gunmen on Friday stormed the premises of another secondary school, St. Mary’s school, a Catholic institution in Papiri community of Agwara Local Government Area of Niger State and abducted over 300 students and 12 staff.

The development has led to the closure of schools in some states to forestall security threats.

On Friday, the Federal Government announced the closure of 41 federal secondary schools in high-risk areas following a spate of abductions in Niger and Kebbi States.

Some states, including Kwara, Plateau, Katsina and Niger have also shut down schools amid the rising insecurity.

Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas, also directed all public and private schools to deboard their students with immediate effect.
