The Department of State Services (DSS) has released seven individuals who were arrested four months ago upon their return from the 2025 Hajj pilgrimage over alleged links to terrorism.
Each of the released persons was reportedly compensated with N1 million after investigations found no evidence of wrongdoing.
The DSS said the decision followed months of thorough investigation into the terrorism allegations, which cleared the individuals of any culpability, BBC Hausa reported.
The suspects’ lawyer, Barrister Bashir Sabi’u Ahmad, expressed satisfaction with the outcome, describing the release as a welcome development.

He commended the Service for upholding justice after what he termed an exhaustive investigation process.
A DSS source who spoke to BBC Hausa said the decision reflects ongoing reforms initiated by the agency’s Director-General, Adeola Oluwatosin Ajayi, aimed at enhancing professionalism and improving public confidence in the Service’s operations.
“This move is part of the DG’s broader reform agenda designed to deepen professionalism and change public perception of how the DSS handles criminal investigations,” the source said.
The released individuals, according to reports, appreciated the fair treatment they received while in custody and expressed gratitude for the N1 million compensation paid to each of them.
