Abubakar Abba, the leader of the new terrorist group in the country, Mahmuda, is in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS), Daily Trust can confirm.

It was learnt that the terror group leader, who was apprehended by the operatives of the secret police in Niger State on Monday, had masterminded various attacks in some states in the North Central geo-political zone.

Niger State governor’s media aide, Bologi Ibrahim, who had earlier confirmed the terror kingpin’s arrest, described the development as a major breakthrough in the fight against terrorism.

Daily Trust reports that some areas in Niger State, particularly Shiroro, had witnessed several attacks on both the villagers and the security forces, who were ambushed by the criminals.

Although Abba was captured in Wawa, Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State, according to the security sources, he was said to have extended his attacks to different parts in the state and some States like Kwara, Kogi, and Nasarawa.

No fewer than 15 vigilantes were killed on June 3 by the terror group in Kemanji village.

Specifically, the terror group members often appear in military camouflage and riding motorcycles when carrying out raids that usually lead to massacres, abductions, illegal mining, and extortion.

Speaking with our correspondent anonymously on Thursday, a source in the DSS explained that the terrorists’ kingpin would help the secret police in its investigation to end the group’s reign in the country.

“The needful is already being done after his arrest. The same intelligence-driven operation that led to his arrest would be handy in ensuring that the reign of the new terror group ends,” the source told Daily Trust.
