However, the operation of the law is yet to be adhered to by some government institutions at the federal and states levels. In Bauchi for instance, campaign for making the laws fully operational has remained illusive. The five years tenure of the Registrar of Bauchi State College of Education, Azare has elapsed this January; instead of advertising in national dailies for those interested including the Registrar himself to apply in line with the tradition in all tertiary institutions (federal universities inclusive), the opposite is the case.
Surprisingly, without following  ‘Due Process’ as the law has it, the Registrar and his high ranking colleagues in the college decided to reappoint him. This is why the school has been on strike, for, according to a lecturer “the law has been violated and something must be done. How can a group of less than ten appoint a Registrar without following ‘Due Process’ or any consultation?’
No matter how, the re-appointment has contradicted all it could contradict. Therefore, it came to us as a shock that issues of irregularities in the running of education should be allowed to continue. Even in the administrative sector, such issues shouldn’t be handled with levity.
 By all standards, the appointment of a Registrar should be transparent to not only give the sector a gleam of hope but restore the dignity and sanctity of the academic environment. In addition, ‘Due Process’ requires that the position must be advertised in the national dailies. It must be democratic not by imposition as it seems to be now in the college.
And if other sections can give room for this imposition, I think academic line- where people consider as sacred shouldn’t be allowed to slide into that. I am therefore using this medium to appeal to the authorities of Bauchi State Ministry for Higher Education to overhaul the situation, do it in a right way and allow the law to take its course before students resume.
