South African choreographer, Tshabalala, who is the winner of the 2013 award for Standard Bank ‘Young dancing talent’ and the French Institute 2014 Visas for Creation, explored relationships and the importance of appreciating and making use of the present moment with dancer Thulani Chauke in his dance work, ‘Between Us.’
Beninese choreographer, Gbeffa, who is the director of the dance company, Multicorps, took the audience backstage through the process of creation and the various emotional and creative states the artiste goes through with his solo ‘Derrière le Rideau.’
The event organised by the Institut Français, Abuja, according to Alice O’Reily, its cultural attaché, was targeted at the Nigerian audience.
Heralded by workshops, which the professional dancers anchored at the Silverbird Galleria and Krump Dance Studio Abuja, respectively, O’Reily said the response from participants was very impressive.
She informed that: “We are organising tours in Africa for some artistes every year, we always choose the diversity in the arts form. Last year we had classical music, beat-boxing, circus, music … and this year we have dance. And we’ll have two other shows later this year.”
